Something Fishy!

There was a distinctly fishy feeling to the weekend after a day spent at sea photographing the PDSA championships once again. Photos are embargoed til after publication but I promise you can see them soon boys!
I also had some lovely dogs to photograph and may favourite of the weekend was this charismatic whippet....what a great expression......"come on mum, how long do I have to do this showing rubbish? id rather be chasing rabbits!!

Moooove over darling

Another week seems to have flown by and its been mainly a bovine week.....Holsteins, Jerseys, and a Highland thrown in for good measure.
An interesting job came in on Tuesday.....and it seems another trip to Belgium is on the cards in the summer......so there will be a real international flavour over the next few weeks with trips to France, Belgium and Germany on the cards for commissioned work, and one of them is completely out of my normal remit, but Farlap pride ourselves on being flexible and embracing new challenges....so "go for it" I say!

Dowland Fair....another geat event!

This was our first year at Dowland Country Fair, and what a great little show it turned out to be....a bit of a hidden gem tucked away in mid Devon, and Im sure it will grow year on year.
As it went to support that great institution "The Eggesford Hunt" I was happy to offer class sponsorship to the dog show section. For those who had their dogs photos taken, then please visit our website as they are now ready for viewing.
Because I had a stand set up with some framed photos, some books, and magazine covers etc we certainly attracted a lot of attention and interest from people who share our love of country sports. I am hoping that some of these people will enjoy having Farlap Fieldsports Photography at their shoot days next season. We also seemed to attract the attention of another photographer, who made the concerted effort to come over and have a good look through the books and images, so lets hope hes managed to find out whatever it was he was looking for.

The nerve of some is unbelievable.......

its been a weekend of two halves....today a VIP client and her rather well known kennel of gundogs, and tomorrow a country fair with lots of lovely terriers!

An interesting development when our internet image search software picked up on a dog show who were using a photo on their website, which was taken by FARLAP photography, and which was tken at an unrelated event. yet they are flaunting the photo on their website as if it represented THEIR show.....and worse still it is being used without permission or payment, and not even a byline. After an email explaining politely that they were not allowed to use the photo, the web builder had the utmost NERVE to write back asking ME to explain how HE got hold of the photo.......at this point I was ready to explode....no doubt the saga will continue, but they will be receiving an invoice shortly for the use of the image!

You wouldnt believe it!

If I told you that yesterdays job involved 4 chickens, 2 litters of kittens, 8 naked ladies, a BBQ and an assortment of dogs then you probobaly wouldnt believe it....but its true!! More details later!
I was also in disbelief as I drove up the motorway 3 days ago following a dog food manufactureres lorry and saw one of my images grinning on the back doors a full 12 feet high.........why disbelief??....because I had not sold them the image and the only person who had access to it was someone who owns the dog and had purchased a copy. Needless to say that on my return home there was an interesting phone conversation between the manufacturers advertising agency and myself!
Now the shooting season is over for a while, Im taking full advantage by getting some relaxed shots of the hard working gundogs.......always a fun side to the tedium of summer!

Not quite Missing in Action!

I seem to have had a glut of emails this weekend, asking why Im not at the next couple of local open dog shows. Dont panic, Im not missing in action or retiring QUITE yet......but simply, Im already booked in another place. Im working at and showing at The World Show, which of course coincides with Liskeard summer show (thanks for asking me Kevin but its just bad timing Im afraid), but I will be there for their October Show all being well. Exeter clashes with Plymouth ASFA annual challenge which I cover every year.
So.....you will just have to be patient and Ill see you all atStithians and Dunster!

Time flies.......

Like they say, "Time flies when you are having fun" and so seems to be the case over the last 2 weeks.
I was commissioned to do all the run up to "South West Sheep" the major annual westcountry event, in preparation for the big day next week, and straight after that I was off to Taunton CS and Royal bath and West Shows, where I kept somewhat busy by being in two places at the same time (Im clever like that you know!!). The roasting weather didnt help me much but at the end of the day the jobs were done and the clients at the show were all pleased.....and they were a varied bunch this year, everything from pig breeders to spaniel exhibitors! The Farlap /SW sporting tourism exhibition wasnt at RBW, however it is having a grand spot at Royal Cornwall Show so I look forward to lots of my countrysports clients and friends saying hello.
